DIY Projects: Easy Faux Roman Shade

this is an easy faux roman shade I made for our master bathroom. faux, because it is static, it doesn't go up or down, it is just for decorating purposes. this solution was ideal for our master bathroom since the window in front or our bathtub doesn't open and it is frosted, we don't have privacy issues.  I wanted a simple roman shade that would make this spot romantic and cozy.

For this diy project you will need:
  • tension rod
  • fabric or your choice
  • thread to match your fabric
  • sewing machine
  • measuring tape
  • dressmaker pins

The how to:
  • measure the window the shade will go in
  • cut your fabric:
    • width= window size plus 2 inches for seam allowance
    • length= will depend on how much of a "folding" at the end you like. I did not want a thick fold showing on mine so I cut my fabric half of the length of my window. It will also depend on how thick is your tension rod.  Measure your tension rod and cut enough fabric for it to fit easily. and don't forget the seam allowance.
  • sew all your seams, i like to iron my seams before sewing, it makes sewing easier and they look crisp
  • sew the tension rod pocket
  • to create the faux roman shade look, put the curtain up in the window using the tension rod and fold the bottom of the curtain to your liking, then use dressmaker pins to hold them together. After you achieve the look you want, take the curtain down and hand stitch the folding together.
and there you have it,  the beautiful diy faux roman shade you made!
