Last month we visited St. Augustine for a long weekend. Even though St. Augustine is a small city it has plenty of my favorite things to do when traveling:
- nature, the city center is a short drive away from the beach, beautiful oak trees with spanish moss adorned the streets, and many nature parks.
- history, as the oldest city in the U.S. St. Augustine is rich in history and tales. Ponce De Leon fountain of youth is supposedly located there. The city is also known for its "ghosts" We did a few ghost tour at the light house and throughout out the city. We didn't get to see any ghosts but we did had a good time listening to the ghost stories.
- architecture, Villa Zorayda a home built with the Alhambra as inspiration, transported me back to Spain. The museum has many interesting pieces and stories, unfortunately you are not allow to take pictures inside.
Flagler College, used to be a luxury hotel built in 1888.
- good food and drinks. I was delighted to find the spanish market, they had great Sangria, manchego cheese y Jamon Serrano! We stayed at Casa Monica, and really enjoyed our stay. We loved their restaurant, I ate one of the best risotto I ever had there.
- and my favorite: antique shops and boutiques. Although I was not able to check all of the shops I wanted due to being a holiday weekend, I was able to check out the cutest soap boutique, Antoinette's bathhouse.
These soaps are so beautiful and smell so good, I wanted to eat them all.
These could make a great gift or be a decorative piece for your bathroom. I bought three of them and I still don't want to use them because they are so pretty, I'm using them as decor.
I also loved the creative names some of them had.
